Current Events Quiz 2.2

1. In Monday's paper the lead story on the front page was about bond supporting affordable housing. Why do you think that the city should or should not pass an additional bond this year to help build more affordable housing?
I think the idea is good, but I'm not sure it will pass. I completely understand helping people that deserve it and need it and support it, but I also understand that people might not want to spend there hard earned money on other peoples houses who may not even have a job of their own.
2. In Monday's paper the top story in the Life and Arts section is called "It's back to the basics". Why would or would you not like to participate in an adventure race like the ones described in the story?
Although it does sound very fun, no I would not. I do not think I am very qualified for a challenge like that considering I am kind of a city girl. My whole family does go camping often, but in RVs with air conditioning and indoor plumming.
3. In Monday's paper, on the second page of the Life and Arts section is a regular column called "Like a Local". The main part of the story is about a woman who wrote a book. The story goes on with a list of Becky Murphy's favorite places to go in Austin. Write a short paragraph in that same style about a favorite place you like to go.
I will admit that I am the definition of homebody, but on an occasion I feel like going out I would choose Barnes and Noble. I am a pretty bid nerd when it comes to books. I would rather spend time at the book store then at the mall anyway. And when it is cold and rainy, I get a nice drink from the extremely convienent Starbucks connected to the store and read all day.
4. In Tuesday's paper, on page A8 there is a story about two Utah men who pushed an ancient rock formation off its foundation. Do you think the men should be prosecuted? WHY OR WHY NOT.
Yes, I do believe they should be prosecuted. Not only because they pushed the formation, but also because they did it in front of other boy scouts when they should have been leading them. And why would you make a video and post it? It was stupid and disrespectful and very ovbiously intentional.
5. In Tuesday's paper in the Business section on page B7, there is a story titled "Report: 15% of younger Americans idle. In a paragraph tell me your reactions to that story.
I think that is terrible. Everyone should have a chance to finish high school and go to colledge. I also believe you should not be dropping out unless you have a back up plan. Not being able to stay in high school is one thing but dropping out is only going to hurt you in life.
6. In Wednesday's paper on the front page, there is a story title "Officer in shooting abruptly retires". Should the officer have been able to retire, and receive a full pension after the incident (please note he was able to buy additional years to get his full pension)? WHY OR WHY NOT.
I honestly don't understand why he would get his pension. After 2 decades of serve and being shot, he should be able to retire peacefully and get the money he earned.
7. In Wednesday's paper in the Metro and State section, the lead story is about a stolen laptop. Do you worry about your private information getting out to the public? WHY OR WHY NOT.
I have a home computer and whenI need a laptop, I just borrow my mom and it's not like I have any really important document on either so no. I understand how this would be a huge inconvenience for any one who does though.
