A kids first day

"Details draw the reader in, generalizations keep them out. Be specific."

3. List three suggestions the writer makes in the Personal Essays and Crafts section that you will use as you write.

2. "Check names, spellings, numbers. Two sources of confirmation are better than one."
3. "In a personal essay you have the freedom to think what you like on a subject, but your reader should go away with a good idea of why you feel that way."

Current Events Quiz #2.3

1. In Tuesday's paper on page A3 "Ellis Island", what do you know about Ellis Island? Would you like to visit the island? WHY or WHY NOT
I have heard of Ellis Island many times in and outside of school. I think it would be great to go there and get to learn about and see all the history the island holds.
2. In Tuesday's paper on page A7 "Thanks, Texas..." What points are the author trying to make about Texas? Do you agree or disagree with his perspective? WHY or WHY NOT
Well, the article was obviously written in sarcastic tone. From what I gather, Texas made some type of decision that ended up going very wrong. The author seems to point out everywhere we went wrong and "Thank" us for it. I don't agree or disagree with the author but I do think it was a slightly rude piece.
3. In Tuesday's paper on page B1 "School staff to get ...." What are your reactions to the story? Do you think the Bastrop staff should get the training? WHY or WHY NOT
I do think that it discrimination is a problem we have always and will always have to deal with. No matter how much training people are put through, there will always be some people who think they are better than others. Forcing teachers to go through this training may help or it may not, but I think it should be their own choice.
4. In Wednesday's paper on page A11 "NFL not..." Do you think the concussion issue is enough to cause changes in the NFL? WHY or WHY NOT
If you are in the NFL, you should know the risk. Football is not the safest sport and concussions are a normal part of it. I think football player shouldn't be able to sue the people they play for when getting an injury.
5.  In Thursday's paper on page A1 "Guards at lockup..." What should happen to guards at the facility?
I think that the guards should not be able to hurt those people and get away with it by lying. In my opinion, they should be throw in jail and that hole facility should be reviewed.
6.  In Thursday's paper on page A1 "Sebelien apologizes: Obama tries..." Should the computer problems plaguing the ACA be reflective on the job the President is doing as the leader of the United States? WHY or WHY NOT
It seems like we have been having a lot of problems concerning President Obama recently, especially the new health care bills.  I think that anything that is going on in the government and so on, makes its way back to Obama. I also think playing the blame game is not as big of an issue than fixing the problem.
