My Top Story of the Century
This article is about Louise Brown, who was the worlds first "test-tube" baby. Dr. Patrick Steptoe and Dr. Robert Edwards wanted to find another way to conceive a baby for women that were unable because of Fallopian tube blockage. The doctors had tried many times, and failed, until Lesley and John Brown. Lesley was monitored throughout the whole pregnancy and everyone wondered if the baby would be born healthy until the day Louise was born, completely healthy and normal.
Although no one is sure where the Spanish Flu originated, the first recoded case was in Fort Riley. A cook was the first the catch the Flu then spreading it to the soldiers. When the infected Soldiers went off to war in Europe, the French Soldiers contracted the deadly disease and it kept on speeding from then on. The Spanish were the first to publicly announce it. There were 3 waves of the Spanish Flu, the second wave more deadly than the first and the third slightly less deadly than the second. No one is sure how this disease came to be.
After a 5 week impeachment trial, Clinton's impeachment was approved on the grounds of perjury and obstruction on justice. President Clinton was found to have had an affair with a 22 year old White House intern. After the girl was transferred to the Pentagon, she told her co-worker details about the affair and the co-worker recorded them. clinton apologized and said he was "profoundly sorry" about the inappropriate relationship.
My favorite article was the second one about the Spanish Flu. I was not aware of many of the facts that found within the article. It was interesting knowing how one deadly disease spread and killed so many.

I read Publishing Drunk Drivers' Photo. This article is about using Drunk Drivers' photos in the newspaper. People are trying to get the Newspaper to stop putting the photos in the paper. The Paper puts the photos with the hope that people will not drink and drive with the possibility.
I have mixed feelings with this article. At one point, I totally understand the need to put the Drivers' photos to reduce the number of drunk drivers, on the road. And I also understand that you should safe the people involved with that person the embarrassment of the whole thing.

I read Using this Process to Craft a Policy. It talks about writing a Policy for a Newspaper or magazine for letting the source see your article before publishing it. The article argues whether or not that journalist should include their sources in the finishing touches of their writing.
I think it is important for Journalist to get their source opinion on the final copy or their writing before they publish it. If there is a error in something that they said, you can fix it then instead of having to print a correction. Even if the source has a different idea of what the journalist wrote, they don't necessarily have to change it because it is their article in the end.

I read A Media Savvy Killer. It talks about a a killer called BTK( an acronym for blob, torture, kill) and a newspaper called The Wichita Eagle. It started in 1974 when the killer killed his first victim, and 10 months later the first letter was found. The site was subpoenaed in 2004 ,since investigators thought BTK might be posting items on a discussion board. After 16 years silence, the killer sent a letter to the Eagle, which might have happened because a story written for the 30th university of the first killing. The Eagle has been criticized for publish the letters from the killer, but the Eagle looks at it that they could be closer to finding the killer.
I think that is is good that the Eagle gets letters from the killer. I think that makes them a step closer to finding the BTK. One day the killer could mess up and maybe leave him finger print on a letter and they could find him.

This topic is hard hitting because it has to do with the death of a student. It is definitely an emotional story.
The stabbings happened during a fight between several students in a school corridor at Spring High School. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said 17-year-old student Luis Alonzo Alfaro pulled a knife during the fight and fatally stabbed one student and wounded three others.
Alfaro admitted to the stabbing under questioning by sheriff’s homicide detectives and was charged with murder, the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement released Wednesday evening.
Authorities provided few details on what may have led to the fight, and no other information was available on the teenager who was killed.
“We believe a confrontation of some sort occurred ... that ultimately led into a physical confrontation that produced weapons,” Sheriff Adrian Garcia said. “There has been some information that this may have been gang-related.”
Officials canceled classes at the high school for the rest of the week.
Some parents said the fight was the continuation of a disturbance that broke out Tuesday. Officials at the school, which has about 3,500 students, would not confirm their comments.
“Every parent sends their child to school believing school should be one of those safe haven places,” Spring Independent School District Superintendent Ralph Draper said. “This is what we spend our nights and days working toward and what I lose sleep over.
“In my nearly 30-year career, this is the one thing you pray never to experience.”
Parent Tara Campbell said she received text messages from her daughter about the fight and that her daughter said students who witnessed the episode snapped cellphone photos of the victims as they lay on the ground.
Campbell said she intended to have her daughter home-schooled, saying she’s grown tired of fights at the school.
“Last year there were gang fights consistently,” she said. “This is ridiculous. This is an ongoing situation.”
Lakesia Brent said her son, a sophomore at the school, sent her multiple text messages asking her to come pick him up.
“He’s just afraid,” she said, adding that fights at the school were a problem in the last academic year.
The school was placed on lockdown following the stabbings, which occurred about 7 a.m., and students were released to the care of their parents later Wednesday.
Many parents were upset that the school district did not provide them information in a timely manner.
Draper defended the district’s actions, saying they focused on two goals — securing the school and making sure no action was taken to compromise the investigation — before communicating information to parents about what had happened. He said students were not immediately released because some of them were potential witnesses who needed to be interviewed by investigators.
