Key Ingredients for Feature Writing

1. LIST 3 DETAILS THAT YOU FOUND ABOVE THAT HELP THE STORY
"She was 5-foot-5, 105 pounds. Pretty and petite." I think this helps to create a vision for the reader. "A 47-page affidavit from an F.B.I. agent investigating a prostitution ring..." This tells the reader what is going on in this peice "But a law enforcement official and another person briefed on the case have identified Client 9 as Eliot Spitzer, the governor of New York." This is a big sucker and really makes the refer want to continue
 2. THERE ARE DETAILS THAT YOU MIGHT NOT INCLUDE IN A REGULAR NEWS STORY, PLEASE LIST AT LEAST 2 OF THEM
"Her client for the evening, a return customer" A writer might not usually say that he is a returning customer but I think they added it to show that this isn't a one-time thing. "had booked Room 871" I think this information isn't really necessary but helps to pint a picture.
3. DO YOU WANT TO KEEP READING?

4. LIST 3 DESCRIPTIVE DETAILS THAT YOU FOUND ABOVE THAT HELP THE STORY
"She lay on a torn, moldy mattress on the floor" "Her ribs and collarbone jutted out" "Insect bites, rashes and sores pocked her skin". All of these create a terrible picture for a reader.
5. THERE ARE DETAILS THAT YOU MIGHT NOT INCLUDE IN A REGULAR NEWS STORY, PLEASE LIST AT LEAST 2 OF THEM

 6. WHAT CONDITIONS EXIST REGARDING THIS CHILD THAT THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES TO YOU?
The child is a young girl in a room that is infested with bugs. She is dirty and is not properly , if at all, fed.
7. DO YOU WANT TO KEEP READING?
This quite disturbing piece and I easily get sick so I don't think it would be a good idea for me to continue.
8. HOW DOES THE QUOTE HELP THE TRANSITION STATEMENT ABOVE IT?
The like that the man repeats himself in the quote to make it even more emotional. This quote sounds very hard hitting and really helps to understand that there was little, innocent children tat were killed.
9. DO YOU WANT TO KEEP READING?
Yes, I do. This is very sad and I would like to more about the inncident.
10. LIST 3 DESCRIPTIVE DETAILS THAT YOU FOUND ABOVE THAT HELP THE STORY
"on private land in a narrow canyon off the road to Zaca Lake, about 15 miles north of Solvang" This tell very specifically where the setting is. "The temperature was headed toward 100 degrees." the author is giving a hint to how hot it was so the reader can understand how easy it would be for a fire to start. "Rainfall the previous winter had been among the lowest on record in Southern California" The author includes this to show how easy it was for the fire to speed with no moisture.
